Bottle Gourd Herbs at Historic Penn Farm: Photo Update

Bottle Gourd Herbs at Historic Penn Farm is located in New Castle, DE.  For local residents interested in chemical-free, ecologically-grown produce, we are pleased to offer you harvests from our humble permaculture demonstration farm.  We have a weekly mailing list that includes updates from the farm, a weekly harvest list, upcoming workshops and events, and more.  To sign up, visit http://www.depermaculture.com and enter your email address in the mailing list subscription field on the homepage.  For assistance, write to us at info@depermaculture.com

For the end of June we are currently offering baby arugula, mixed heirloom salad greens, bright lights swiss chard and culinary herbs (including rosemary, sage, parsley, lemon balm, greek oregano, marjoram, and meditteranean spearmint) at competitive chemical-free prices - email for details.  Are you a cafe or restaurant owner, natural grocer or co-op?  We are happy to supply wholesale orders too.

Thank you to the following local businesses for supporting Bottle Gourd Herbs at Historic Penn Farm by sourcing our produce in their establishments: Fresh Thymes Cafe, Delaware Local Food Exchange and Spring Run Natural Foods.  Big up!

And now for a few photos of our growing crops:

Adding bio-active mineral amendments to newly double dug beds in May 2013.....

Same beds today, late June 2013.  Bed in foreground is planted to baby arugula, back further bed is planted to heirloom salad green blends, and the further back to the compost pile is planted to squashes, summer radishes and beans.
Our beautiful heirloom salad greens (grass not included!)
Our first heirloom bush beans bed.  Three different varieties (royal burgundy, provider and golden wax).  All in flower and starting to fruit.  Bed is interplanted with red beets and calendula.

A bunch of our just-harvested bright lights swiss chard.
Our first summer squash to come to fruit.  Grown in a living mulch of dutch white clover.

  1. Hi Maya, this looks great. This is Elisa King. We talked on the phone earlier today. I too am interested in a permaculture approach to gardening and look forward to attending any workshops you may be hosting.
